Who We Are

Bike Walk Nebraska is the only statewide advocacy nonprofit pursuing active transportation. Active transportation is human-powered transportation, predominantly biking, walking, and rolling.  At Bike Walk Nebraska, we support all vulnerable road users but focus most of our efforts on cyclist and pedestrian safety, access, and infrastructure.

Why We Need Your Support 

As the statewide organization, we harness tens of thousands of dollars to support large-scale initiatives to push the needle forward on multiple fronts. 

While we have grants to help support some of these, we cannot fully sustain the necessary efforts without your direct support - our donors. 

Policy & Advocacy:

Bike Walk Nebraska spends most of its time and resources lobbying for progressive and sound policies to pave the way for a more bike and pedestrian-friendly state. 

In 2025, we are tracking nearly 15 bills, testifying in support or opposition of almost 10, in addition to sponsoring a Vulnerable Road User bill. 

Education & Outreach:

Since launching our free Learn to Ride Program, we have taught 10 instructors and 22 participants, with 80% of participants riding by the end of their class. Attendees were from 17 different zip codes and were between the ages of 15 and 64. It’s the only offering like it in the state.

Trails & Infrastructure: 

Trails can connect communities recreationally and for transportation. We are taking on The Cowboy Trail, a 321-mile trail system that runs through nearly 30 communities, and we are educating and advocating for them to harness the trail as an economic development & tourism asset. 

Community Support:

Bike Walk Nebraska hosts and takes on the operational expenses of Bike Walk Give Day to foster a stronger advocacy community and provide a platform for fellow nonprofits across the state. It takes a village to pursue large-scale projects; we can’t do it alone. 

We don’t receive any funds outside of the donations given directly to our organization as a part of this give day. 

We can’t do this alone. Every gift helps us continue our statewide efforts to ensure all Nebraskans are safe while enjoying biking and walking in their community.
